Our Interior Remodeling Process From Start To Finish
On-Site Walk-Through & Initial Consultation
Before RnD Builders begins any design work or planning, your interior remodel starts with a walk-through consultation with a licensed contractor. We’ll discuss many topics in our visit, such as timelines, budget, and overall vision. We aim to be transparent during our consultation so you have all the information to make the most informed decisions regarding your home addition project.
Finalizing the Designs
After the initial on-site consultation, you’ll meet with an RnD Builders design team member. Our design expert will aim to understand your vision and style for the interior remodel as we want to ensure a consistent manner and flow throughout the entire home. Your ideas, vision, and style will be translated into a live 3D model where you can collaborate with our design team on making adjustments and changes. We’ll also discuss updates to the budget and timeline based on the finalized design and plans and see if changes are necessary before beginning work.

How Long Does It Take To Finish An Interior Remodel?
How long interior remodels take to be completed depends on the scope of the remodel. Replacing the flooring of a few rooms and some other minor touchups will finish faster than an entire home remodel. Completing an entire home remodel can take four to six months. Of course, your RnD Builders project manager will update you on anything that has affected the timeline.

Interior Remodel FAQs
Not all interior remodels will require a permit. It depends on the scope of the project. Basic cosmetic upgrades like flooring or cabinetry typically do not require permits. However, any structural, plumbing, or electrical work will require a permit. The good news is that we know when permits are needed and when not, and we handle the entire process. On your end, you simply tell us what you want. Then, we make it happen.
Most of the time, interior remodeling will not require any zoning approval. Zoning clearances are needed only for projects that update the exterior footprint of your home. However, an interior remodel that expands or converts a space may need zoning clearance to confirm it adheres to use and safety standards. We figure all of this out for you, using local expertise to guide the process and prevent any delays.
Communities with a Homeowners Association (HOA) may restrict some interior projects. However, you usually only need HOA approval for projects that would affect utilities or shared walls. We always take a client’s HOA regulations into account when designing projects. For basic cosmetic upgrades, HOA limitations often do not apply.
Interior remodeling can happen year-round! Since all work typically takes place indoors, you need not consider the weather. If you plan both exterior and interior renovations, you may want to consider seasonal advantages and disadvantages when moving forward with your project.
If a home inspector or city official discovers unpermitted work in your Los Angeles home, it can create serious problems. You may be required to stop all current construction, pull the proper permits after the fact, and, in some cases, tear down or redo the work entirely so it can be inspected properly. This process — called a “retroactive permit” or “permit after the fact” — can cost significantly more than getting the permit upfront.
Beyond the cost, unpermitted work can also affect your home’s value, make it harder to sell, and may cause your homeowner’s insurance to deny certain claims.
The kitchen is consistently the most expensive room to renovate in any home. A mid-range kitchen remodel in Los Angeles typically runs between $30,000 and $80,000, while a high-end kitchen renovation can easily exceed $100,000 or more.
Why so costly? Kitchens involve nearly every trade — plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, countertops, appliances, flooring, and lighting — all in one space. Custom cabinets, stone countertops like quartz or marble, and professional-grade appliances drive costs up quickly. The good news: a well-done kitchen remodel offers one of the best returns on investment when it comes time to sell your home.
Across all types of home renovations, labor costs are usually the single biggest expense — often making up 40% to 50% of the total project budget. Skilled tradespeople such as electricians, plumbers, and structural contractors charge premium rates, especially in a high-demand market like Los Angeles.
After labor, the next most expensive elements tend to be structural changes (like removing load-bearing walls), plumbing and electrical upgrades, and high-end materials such as hardwood flooring, custom millwork, or luxury tile. If your project involves an addition or major layout change, foundation work can also push costs significantly higher.
Los Angeles has no shortage of remodeling contractors, but finding one you can truly trust — one that delivers quality craftsmanship, stays on budget, and communicates clearly — is a different story. The best interior remodeling contractors in LA share a few key traits: proper licensing and insurance, verified local reviews, transparent pricing, and a strong portfolio of completed projects.
RND Builders Inc proudly serves homeowners across Los Angeles as a fully licensed and insured interior remodeling contractor. From kitchen and bathroom remodels to full home renovations, we bring skilled craftsmanship, honest pricing, and a client-first approach to every project. Our team knows LA neighborhoods, local codes, and what materials and styles work best for Southern California homes.
